Klickitat Canyon Day Trips
Targets: Steelhead June through November, Salmon September through November
Cost: $550 for one or two anglers
Duration: 8 hours
Simply put, the Klickitat River Canyon, located on the Washington-side of the river in the Columbia River Gorge near Lyle, is flat-out beautiful. It just so happens to be home to some of the hardest-fighting salmon and steelhead that swim up the Columbia River from the North Pacific. This is due in part to the series of waterfalls that every fish in the Klickitat must clear in the lower 5 miles of the river before they can continue upstream into the canyon- only the strong ones make it!
We love floating the Klickitat in the fall when the cool weather brings out bright colored foliage to the banks and stable flows to the river. What the Klickitat lacks in size, it more than makes up for in its myriad of compelling runs and pools that are complimented with fish-holding structure that will both challenge and reward fly anglers of all skill levels.
While we prefer to exit the boat to wade fish the Klickitat with two-handers (comfortable wading equipment is a must), anglers may also fish from the boat. Depending on the time of year, we will fish one of a number of stretches from 8 to 20 miles in length. Your guide will provide lunch and fishing gear, although we encourage you to bring your own outfits.
Not included in cost of trip: Fishing license(s), wading equipment.
